Andrew Luck (concussion) out for Thanksgiving game
But on Thursday night, he’ll be the senior member of the Colts’ center-quarterback tandem when Indianapolis takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
STEELERS KEY TRENDS: Pittsburgh is just 1-4 against the spread in its last five games, although the team did cover as a 9-point road favorite last week against the winless Browns.
Concussions are without a doubt the biggest concern in the National Football League right now, just ask Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. WR Antonio Brown needs 93 yards to join Hines Ward as only players in franchise history with four straight 1,000-yard seasons, and one 100-yard game to break Ward’s career franchise record (29 games).
The Colts (5-5) are in the same predicament as the Steelers, clinging to what seems to be rapidly disappearing playoff hopes. He played one season for the Wolverines in 2015 after beginning his college career at Iowa, where he was a two-year starter.
This season, Luck has completed 236 of 375 passes for 2,827 yards and 19 touchdowns with eight interceptions while being sacked 35 times. He threw for 522 yards and six touchdowns in a 51-34 victory in 2014. Kansas City and Denver actually play one another this weekend, so the victor between the Steelers and Colts will be one win behind one of those teams by the end of the NFL’s Thanksgiving weekend. They’re back to.500 at 5-5 and will go to Indianapolis on Thanksgiving Night to play the Colts.
Today could face a similar turnout as the Colts star QB Andrew Luck will sit out with a concussion against the Steelers. Off play-action, Scott Tolzien was sacked by James Harrison for a 5-yard loss, and then Adam Vinatieri was wide right on a 52-yard fields goal attempt.
Notes: Safety Clayton Geathers (concussion) and cornerback Vontae Davis (ankle) also did not practice Tuesday.
The Steelers have been up and down this year, however, as they’re 15th in points scored per game (23.8) and 12th in yards per game (364.4), while they’re 12th in points allowed per game (21.5) and 22nd in yards per game allowed (363.6). We all saw what they did against the Browns and what they are capable of. The offense was led by Le’Veon Bell with his 28 carries for 146 yards, averaging 5.2 yards a carry.
Without any real knowledge of Tolzien and what he can bring, the Steelers should have no issues scoring against a bad Colts defense and they cap off Turkey Day with several touchdowns.
The Colts offense will be compromised on Thursday, but the defense has been seemingly ill-equipped all year.
He was pressed into action when backup Seneca Wallace was injured and started the next two games before being benched. Andrew Luck is likely out, but Tomlin says that will not change the game plan. Running back Frank Gore could play a role, as he’s scored seven times (four rushing, three receiving) and could be helpful in receiving underneath passes to boost Tolzien’s confidence. He was not even listed on the injury report on Monday or Tuesday, so this looks like something he sustained in practice ahead of Thursday’s clash with Pittsburgh.
Thanksgiving is only one day away and with it comes a crucial Week 12 for the Baltimore Ravens and the race for the AFC North division.
