Predicting Top 4 Teams After Week 11 Action
But while Louisville has still been given a respectable ranking of No. 5, it is clear that the committee values Clemson’s head-to-head win.
What a weekend of college football it was.
On Tuesday night, the playoff committee made a decision to elevate OSU to the second spot in the playoff race with just two weeks remaining on the schedule.
Thoughts, takedowns and takeaways from Week 11, when everything got a little more interesting. Their misstep took them from No. 8 and controlling their own destiny in the SEC West, to No. 18 and on the outside looking in for a New Year’s 6 bowl. The only way that’ll change is if the Buckeyes lose – to MI next Saturday.
Three of last week’s top four teams and half the top 10 lost Saturday, but Tuesday’s poll didn’t exactly reflect those upsets.
3 p.m. or 7 p.m.: College Football Playoff Semifinal at the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl: No. 2 Ohio State vs. “That’s not even something that comes up in our discussions as the committee members evaluate these teams from A to Z”.
This week they host a struggling Buffalo team (2-8) and then Toledo (8-2) the following week, while Boise State hosts UNLV (4-6) on Friday before playing Air Force (7-3) on November 25.
Don’t be surprised if MI and Clemson remain in the top four, behind Alabama and Ohio State, which should climb to No. 2.
Louisville has the biggest argument against the most recent poll since they were unable to move past MI and Clemson despite their losses last weekend.
The same level of uncertainty does not exist with the future of the Big 12 or the Pac-12. Their relatively weak non-conference schedule will come back to bite them. Expect to see four Big Ten teams in the top eight as that is where PSU deserves to be heading into their Rutgers game. It doesn’t change all that much in the Big Ten race, though, as MI and Ohio State will decide the division title November 26 in Columbus.
If Wisconsin wins the Big Ten championship. “We talked in depth about those losses and all the other facets that makes up those teams resume”. So something would have to give in this scenario.
Washington dropped two spots to sixth, however it still appears to be in good position. Ohio State deserves to be here despite the team’s tough loss at Penn State a few weeks back, but the Buckeyes still have to get by the Michigan State Spartans, Michigan Wolverines, and win the Big 10 Championship Game in order to clinch a playoff spot. The Nittany Lions could then find themselves in the same situation I just spelled out for Wisconsin. However, it does increase the possibility of two ACC teams. The Buckeyes have a nonconference victory over Oklahoma, which might win the Big 12. Oklahoma will need lots of help to sneak into the field, but the Sooners have a pulse.
