Cavs’ Love sets National Basketball Association record with 34 points in 1st quarter

Kevin Love didn’t think anything unusual was going on Wednesday night. That left the Cavaliers with four full days off between games.

Love scored an insane and record setting 34-points in the first quarter on Wednesday, helping lead the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers to a 137-125 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

In a barrage of scoring to open up Wednesday night’s game, the third-year Cavalier knocked down his first five shots from deep and his first six shots overall.

Love finished with 40 points and James put up 31 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. The current benchmark was set by Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who scored 37 points in a quarter in January previous year.

Love didn’t realize he was closing in on Thompson’s milestone. “I didn’t know that was the record”, he said. “And it was on from there”. “And Kyrie’s been doing a great job of that since I’ve taken over”.

K.Love caught fire in the opening quarter and dropped 34 points, which is the second-most points in a quarter in National Basketball Association history and the most in a quarter by a Cavaliers player. He is averaging 23.2 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game and 9.0 assists per game. “More than anything, Kyrie (Irving) and ‘Bron (LeBron James) were finding me all over the court”.

“I kept trying to go to him”. With a long way to go in the regular season, they will be hoping Love and his teammates can continue their scoring form as they bid to retain the title.

By the end of the quarter, Love had 34 points. Confidence was oozing through the big man and the atmosphere in the Quicken Loans Arena was electric as he knocked down shot after shot.

“Love hit everything he threw up”. “He was just hot”.

This was the team’s highest point total in 34 years.

“We have to play tougher”, Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau said. “That was as impressive of a performance as I’ve seen”.
