Florida vs. LSU: Live Score, Highlights for Gators vs. Tigers
As bad as we played, was probably the worst we’ve played since we started our new season. I thought our guys closed the game out well with plays made by Antonio Blakeney and several other guys. After having no more than two interceptions in his first nine games, quarterback Anthony Jennings threw three interceptions, all in the first half.
Forget all the huffing and puffing in pre-game warm-ups that prompted LSU’s injured running back Leonard Fournette to rip off his sweats and strap on his battle gear. There’s no guarantee that Williams would’ve gained enough yards for the first down, but he isn’t a one-tackler runner, so it was conceivable.
But as far as Saturday night and interim offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, not even former coach Les Miles malaise of an offense from 2008 through the first four games this season for the most part – with the exception of 2013 – had this many shots at touchdowns and came away virtually empty. No. 21 Florida’s 16-10 win over No. 16 LSU wasn’t just only the Gators’ first win over a ranked road opponent under McElwain, or the group’s first victory in Baton Rouge since 2009. After half-time, LSU drove the field but was held to a field goal, which was bobbled, desperately thrown, and knocked incomplete.
There’s clearly no love lost between the two teams. The No. 16 Tigers (6-3) are playing well coming off a thorough trouncing of Arkansas last weekend and are favorites against the Gators.
LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye kicks a 22 yard field goal to tie the game.
Who: No. 16 LSU (6-3) vs.
A huge momentum swing in the third quarter changed the game.
Historical rivals LSU and Florida are finally ready to line up and still with a lot on the line albeit in a different place and some six weeks after they were supposed to meet before Hurricane Matthew blew ashore in early October. Fournette is dressed and on the field.
On the final play, the UF defensive front got some penetration, forcing Guice to try and make a leap toward the goal line, but the Gators stopped him short. Fournette, who originally wasn’t expected to play, chose to play after the scuffle. Had they played LSU back on October 8, they could have avoided going up against the Tigers’ All-American running back Leonard Fournette, 21, who was sidelined at the time with an ankle injury.
Pinerio kicks a 26 yard field goal to put the Gators ahead. Perine carried safety Jamal Adams on his back for much of that carry as cornerback Donte Jackson was in front of the play, but avoided contact. The drive was highlighted by a 29-yard pass to Guice from Etling on 2nd-and-10 at the LSU 20.
Yet it was a defensive and running display up until the end. Thanks to LSU switching the venue to Baton Rogue, the next two games in this rivalry will be played in Gainesville.
Despite having what was perceived as the most talented roster in a weak SEC East, and despite beating Florida, Tennessee’s hopes of winning the division for the first time since 2007 are finished. However, at the goal on third down, fullback J.D. Moore was stuffed. On the final fourth-and-goal play, Derrius Guice went the wrong way so LSU can’t do the same and keep Orgeron.
Florida closes out their SEC schedule with a 6-2 record. “Up 7-3, go up 14-3 with the great defense we have, we could do some things to move the football to take care of the clock”.
Think about this: On an afternoon when practically every inch was contested, they turned it around with a 98-yard touchdown pass.
