Trump calls for unity in Thanksgiving address
To talk about this, we are joined by NPR’s Jim Zarroli.
Ivanka Trump and Kushner were in the room for a meeting between Donald Trump and Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe last week. It was a short meeting. And the fact that he is president makes, you know – makes his brand potentially worth more.
Only 41 percent of self-identified Independents and 8 percent of self-identified Democrats believe that the arrangement goes far enough in avoiding conflicts of interest.
“Having me as a federal bureaucrat would be like a fish out of water”, he told the Washington Post. Trump has already encouraged foreign diplomats to rent rooms at his hotel. Only a few of these interests seem to be in the original Trump field of real estate.
Despite Trump’s lack of concern, a number of typically conservative-leaning outlets have called for him to wholeheartedly remove himself from his businesses.
Professor Schooner added that as long as the Trump family are in ownership of the business there would not be “necessary separation”, and he did “not expect the Trump Organisation to do the right thing”. They say that remains true even if he hands control to the children.
When a politician is elected US president, he typically divests himself of any business interests that potentially could cause a conflict of interest and puts his assets into a blind trust. “You’d be putting them out of work”. Trump will be required only to disclose financial interests, including assets and liabilities. For instance, actually today, there was a story.
“On trade, I’m going to issue a notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership – a potential disaster for our country”, Trump says in the video.
There are now reports that he asked the President of Argentina to speed up the granting of a building permit in Buenos Aires.
Now, the president of Argentina’s spokesmen came out right away, denied this, said it was absolutely untrue.
Our transition team is working very smoothly, efficiently, and effectively.
Donald Trump owns golf clubs, hotels, office towers and licensing deals in a total of 18 countries or territories including Azerbaijan, Turkey, China, Canada, Indonesia and Scotland.
The president-elect still has almost two months to go before he takes office, but he’s making it clear that he intends to hit the ground running – right from the beginning.
Mr. Trump brushed aside questions about conflicts arising from his business dealings, declaring that “the law’s totally on my side, the president can’t have a conflict of interest.”
He says thinks this is all extremely problematic.
Now that Trump is the president-elect, it’s good to see a more appropriate Thanksgiving message from him.
