Arsene Wenger: ‘Steven Gerrard was a dream midfielder’
Former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is planning his next move post-retirement and is hopeful of making an announcement “very soon”.
The ex-Senegal worldwide had a tumultuous relationship with the Reds legend, and reignited their feud this week with his comments on French TV.
Gerrard’s future has been the subject of much speculation as he continues to get linked to clubs in both a coaching and playing capacity. Gerrard scored Liverpool’s first goal and drove the team on to arguably one of the greatest nights in the club’s history.
“I spoke to them”, the 36-year-old said.
Diouf, who spent two seasons at Liverpool and has criticised Gerrard previously, took aim at the former midfielder again.
To which Diouf replied: “I do”. Good luck Stevie G!
“He’ll go down as one of the great contributors to Liverpool’s success but I certainly wouldn’t put him alongside Souness who did actually control the middle of the field – he didn’t score as many goals – and Dalgish was everything”. He was nothing at all.
The door is always open for him.
Petit then attempted to remember the year in which Gerrard won the Champions League final against AC Milan, with Diouf stepping in: “Here is the proof, even you can not remember”. The body starts talking to you.
However the Liverpool manager expects Gerrard to someday link up with his boyhood club again. He was a young player, he’ll be a young whatever.
Diouf then kicked off: “I repeat”. His three assists at Euro 2012 helped him earn Man of the Match honors on two occasions and a spot on the UEFA Team of the Tournament, as England went to the quarterfinals. “I let him know”. It’s not important what I think.
In my last three or four months with the Galaxy I was getting too many injuries.
He has said he is interested in coaching and management and at his press conference at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground today, Reds boss Klopp was asked if there could be a job for Gerrard in his staff. That was the real problem. “What I will say is that I am going home to spend some time with my family and basically go over my options and decide what is the best next challenge for me”.
