Eddie Redmayne Just Told Us How ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Will Be Titled
Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), author of Beasts (a book Harry later studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) has arrived with a case full of magical creatures as a panic rises from attacks all over the world by the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
However, havoc ensues when Newt (played by Eddie Redmayne) loses his bag, containing some of these beasts. Along the way, he raises the curiosity of a well-meaning witch (Katherine Waterston), grabs the attention of a high-ranking wizard (Colin Farrell), and inadvertently involves an innocent bystander (Dan Fogler) in his shenanigans. Newt is now forced to use magic out in the open, which is against the law in the U.S. In trying to clean up his mess, he mistakenly switches suitcases with Jacob Kowalski (Fogler), a local baker who just witnessed the entire event. Moreover, director David Yates-who helmed the final four Potter movies-returns to direct this prequel/standalone/spinoff feature.
“‘Fantastic Beasts” biggest advantage is brand recognition”, said Shawn Robbins, senior box office analyst at Boxoffice.com. There’s nice slapstick, endearing characters and good family comedy, but it doesn’t compare to the richness of the Harry Potter canon.
Fantastic Beasts… has nearly everything you could ask for in a movie of this sort, including memorable characters such as Tina’s mind-reading and scene-stealing sister Queenie (Allison Sudol), mind-blowing special effects, heroes and villains, and, of course, the fantastic flora and fauna beasts.
Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley are names who will be mentioned together forever when talking about the greatest triple-threats in film or literature. Between its adult cast and its dark tone (which is dark enough to earn a PG-13 rating), “Fantastic Beasts” nearly feels like Harry Potter for grown-ups. If you’re not up on your Potterlore, he’s pretty much the big daddy of all dark wizards but it all started out in a positive way with a plan to work with a young Albus Dumbledore to join the magical and Muggle worlds. He also teaches English composition for Salt Lake Community College.
