Guice runs for LSU-record 285 yards, Tigers beat Aggies
LSU wide receiver D.J. Chark (82) rushes for a touchdown as Texas A&M defensive back Priest Willis (24) defends during the second half of an NCAA college football game Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, in College Station, Texas.
During LSU’s 54-39 win over Texas A&M Thursday night, the school released a statement saying that no decision has been made on the school’s next football coach.
LSU players, many of whom have lobbied for Orgeron to get the permanent job, doused Orgeron with the Gatorade shower after the game and chanted, “Keep Coach O …” It’s not even an LSU at full strength, as all-universe human Mack Truck Leonard Fournette isn’t making the trip to Aggieland. He’s a good assistant coach and that’s where he’ll stay – either at LSU or elsewhere. LSU will need to make sure it is in the best possible position not just for the short-term but in the long-term with a coach that can recruit, develop and maximize his team’s potential in order to win games.
But then there are the National Football League draft-eligible juniors who might jump ship before their senior season – names such as running back Leonard Fournette, safety Jamal Adams, defensive lineman Davon Godchaux and receiver Malachi Dupre.
The LSU Tigers are visiting the Texas A&M Aggies and it will pit former Bruin OC Noel Mazzone against former Southern Cal interim coach Ed Orgeron. Guice earned the 1st and 3rd highest single-game rushing performances in the last three weeks. He gained a school record 285 yards on 37 carries. “I think he did a tremendous job”, LSU safety Jamal Adams said. “At the end of the day, we can’t go burn LSU down if that doesn’t happen, but we want Coach O. We were playing tonight for Coach O”. LSU is 5-2 under Louisiana native Orgeron, though that may not be enough for the interim coach to keep the job full-time. The school is planning to meet with Houston coach Tom Herman Saturday, according to Ross Dellenger of the Advocate. It’s good advice for Joe Alleva at Louisiana State University, where his best choice in his college football coach may be Ed Orgeron, the man now coaching at LSU. “We came out and wanted to be the more physical team and we did it”. “It was a ship that was sinking and we turned it around”. Knight replaced Jake Hubenak, who started the previous two games but also has developed a shoulder injury.
“We were 6-0 and No. 4 in polls at one point”. The Aggies are still a possibility for a Sugar Bowl berth, which would go to the second-highest ranked team from the SEC, and would finish in second place in the SEC West with a win on Thursday and an Auburn loss against Alabama. “Wish I could point a finger”.
The Tigers scored touchdowns on all three of their first-quarter drives, with Ferguson going 12 of 13 for 187 yards and two touchdowns in the quarter. If not for their failure to get more than a field goal out of their last four times inside the Florida 10-yard line because of a fumble, botched field goal and gal line stand, the Tigers might have won last weekend. LSU began in the preseason top 5 and finished with four regular-season losses for just the fifth time in the last 17 years.
