Good feelings gone as Bryant, Norman feud after Cowboys’ win
On the field, Norman followed Bryant everywhere but the slot, going with the plan Washington adopted late in the Cowboys’ Week 2 win at FedEx Field. The talk was flowing.
Bryant recorded five catches on seven targets for 72 yards on the night. Norman and Bryant got into a bit of shoving match, and Bryant criticized the cornerback’s on-field credentials. “He just be talking, man”, Bryant said. Dez Bryant continued to throw insults at Josh Norman by opening his postgame news conference with the following words: “First off, Washington needs to get their money back from Josh Norman”. But you gotta tip your hats off to them.
Bryant caught one of his passes on slot cornerback Kendall Fuller for a key third-down completion and, according to Pro Football Focus, just five vs.
Echoing Beckham, Bryant also said Norman’s well-known penchant for game-long trash talk frequently crosses the line in subject matter.
There’s nothing Norman relishes more than being a difference-maker, and he’s coming off forcing a fumble at a crucial juncture against the Packers.
Dez posted a link to the play in question and said he will be spending the whole week posting film on “how Norman got exposed”.
It was a game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers. Yet there they were, making their confrontation a bigger story than all the game’s big runs and passes, most of which didn’t involve them.
Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker Anthony Hitchens (59) and Damien Wilson (57) stop Washington Redskins running back Rob Kelley (32) after a short run in the second half of an NFL football game, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, in Arling.
On Thursday, it was Bryant who was yelling the same thing. “That’s not man-to-man. He was scared”.
Machota: As good as the offense is, the Cowboys are not going to be able to win the NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl without more pressure and some turnovers. “He’s playing bail technique”. He can go and cry, holler or whatever you wanna do.
Smith noted Bryant has since denied telling Norman that, but said the Redskins star should refrain from telling the media Bryant threatened him with a gun because it “contributes to the stereotypes attached to young black men”.
“It’s hard to get corners that can create turnovers, so that was a major draw for us in my mind”, Gruden said.
But the rest of it was highly entertaining and made for a tasty desert on top of what was a fun game between two bitter rivals. They play another Thursday game next week at Minnesota, meaning their extended break will instead come before the November 11 rematch against the Giants in New Jersey.
