Virat Kohli Will Assess ‘Load of Captaincy’ After Three years
India completed a convincing 246-run victory over England in the second Test at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Monday.
England’s resolve was broken early during a frantic opening session on the fifth and final day at Visakhapatnam and there was only going to be one victor from that point as the visitors were bowled out for 158 in chase of an improbable 405. However, their spirited knocks came to an end late on the penultimate day, much to England’s despair and India’s delight.
“I think we all saw the first day was the easiest to bat – the first two sessions in particular”.
“It was a good toss to win (for India), no doubt. Yes we’ve lost this game but we can hold our heads up high and there are lots of things to be encouraged on”.
Vizag: After wrapping up India for just above 204 and getting nearly a day-and-a-half to bat to survive the match, Alastair Cook and H Hammed showed up brilliant resistance and fight back.
Hameed was trapped in front by Ravi Ashwin, having consumed 144 deliveries for his 25, while Cook’s departure to Ravi Jadeja for a stoic 54 gave India’s victory charge added impetus. From being 75 for no loss, England finished the day at 87 for two.
It was just a matter of time for India to wrap-up the encounter.
Resuming 98-3 on the penultimate day, England made an early breakthrough when Broad found the outside edge of Ajinkya Rahane and Cook made no mistake in the slip cordon to end a 77-run stand after India found themselves 40-3 early on in their second innings.
Kohli once again top-scored in the second innings for India with 81 runs, setting a target of 404 for England. The other India bowlers backed Ashwin up really well in this match, and they need to continue doing that, but it is great to see the man from Tamil Nadu bowling so well. “Will try get fit for the next one but will definitely be fit for Mumbai”. It will be a tough day for them.
The Sky Sports 2 has also broadcast this test match for the people and fans of New Zealand.
“The foot is sore but I have got to play a Test, haven’t I?” Even in Indian conditions, Bairstow was outstanding, and he is going to be one of England’s most important players in this India series.
The Indian bowlers kept the pressure on England, not giving away any cheap runs.
