No drugs, alcohol in driver in deadly Tennessee school bus crash
– Police said toxicology reports on the driver of the bus which crashed in Chattanooga, killing six children, show no trace of drugs or alcohol.
Breena Ross said she worked with Johnthony Walker, the bus driver in the fatal crash, at his second job at Amazon.
This is a developing story and was updated at 3:40 p.m.
Federal authorities said Walker left the designated bus route and had driven onto a curvy road while carrying 37 children on their way home from Woodmore Elementary School. It was unclear if Durham took any action against Walker after that collision.
Ross said Walker never mentioned he drove a school bus.
Walker was driving fast on the winding curves of Talley Road in Brainerd, according to his arrest affidavit.
According to the affidavit of complaint obtained by ABC News, police said Walker was driving above the 30 miles per hour speed limit on Talley Road, a narrow, winding road. “And he was just sitting there on the wall”, Dodds said. The bus had just departed the school and had not yet dropped off any of the students on its route. “I tell you what, it was monumental”.

The process of identifying the injured moved slowly, Koller said, and hospital staff resorted to photographing each child for teachers to identify.
What we know: Johnthony Walker, 24, has been charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. “Because of their young age, many of them were unable to spell their names, did not know their birthdays or even their parents” names – several said “Momma’ when they were asked what their name was”.
WXIA’s Ron Jones spoke with one eyewitness who said he spoke with the driver right after the crash.
ABC News reports that Walker’s prior accident was a minor one in which he sideswiped an SUV, also while driving a school bus. No injuries were reported, and no charges were filed. Walker also had his license suspended for some time, due to lack of proof of vehicle insurance.
“I’ve been calling up to the school since school started”. He said ‘I love you mom.
“I’m so grateful for folks like these professional educators who were immediately on the scene reassuring children with familiar faces, with neighbors who came out and held kids’ hands, with first responders that came and saw things that nobody wants to see”, Haslam said.
According to WRCB in Chattanooga, family members have identified the victim as 8-year-old Keyonte Wilson.
Durham School Services, which transports more than 1 million students daily at schools across the United States, is contracted by Hamilton County.
Other parents say they complained about the driver in the past.
A warrant was issued to remove the bus’ black box equipment and review evidence from an on-board video camera. Investigators are facing similar challenges in retrieving speed and braking information from the engine control module that has been removed from the bus. Kelly addressed reporters early Tuesday morning.
