Guice runs wild for Tigers
As is the case with Fedora, Fuente would only ever be a secondary option behind Fisher and Orgeron but there is still a chance that LSU would be interested in him based on his track record at such a young age.
That meeting could come as early as Saturday afternoon.
This marked the second winning interim stint at a major program for Orgeron, who went 6-2 at USC after Lane Kiffin was sacked in 2013. During LSU’s third possession of the 1st quarter, Etling did something that it took him an entire half to do against Florida -complete a pass to a wide receiver. On top of that, he would get to coach in the SEC, a prestigious honor despite the conference’s down year in 2016.
Kiffin is actively seeking a head coaching job, but he has gotten little to no traction.
“I’ve been treated like the head coach here on a daily basis”.
If the players continue to embrace Orgeron and he manages to put together a strong offensive staff, the Tigers have the talent and resources to return to prominence. Orgeron was 10-25 overall, 3-21 in the SEC with the Ole Miss Rebels from 2005-2007.
Alleva said LSU’s coaching search was “never going to come down to a bidding war”, adding “we knew that coach O was never going to play games with us”. “And I learned about that”.
It’s just going to take a while before we know if this really is a good hire.
Is Herman the guy for the Tigers?
Guice, who suffered two critical fumbles inside the 10-yard line in the 16-10 loss to Florida last week and ran the wrong way on the ill-fated last play of the game from the Gators’ 1, held onto the ball on this night. “I plan to do the same”.
Orgeron was similarly adored by players during his stint at USC, but the Trojans hired then-Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, who has since been fired.
A toast of Chivas Regal fine scotch is in order from LSU’s offensive players and coaches to Chavis, who bolted from LSU two years ago next month for the defensive coordinator position at Texas A&M.
Texas head coach Charlie Strong will reportedly be fired after Friday’s game against TCU. Following Thursday night’s game, chants of “Keep coach O” could be heard from LSU’s locker room. According to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger, that report was accurate at the time. Before Houston’s regular-season finale against Memphis, Herman told ESPN reporters “not to believe what they read” and he said reports he was nearing a deal with LSU are false.
It was long assumed that Herman was heading to Texas, but hold those horses. The question, of course, would be whether this situation would be enough to influence Herman out of what is universally considered his dream job, by multiple sources close to him.
Orgeron also said he is confident defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will remain with the team going forth, despite being heavily sought after. “He just worked hard all week, along with our offensive line”.
Herman, of course, is also being hotly pursued by LSU to replace interim coach Ed Orgeron.
There’s nothing wrong with LSU retaining Orgeron for now.
Derrius Guice stuffed a Texas A&M turkey full of yards and touchdowns Thursday night while Leonard Fournette could only watch on television back home with his ankle injury.
Orgeron took over in September and guided the Tigers to a 5-2 record while at the helm.
Guice was also clear about his feelings for Orgeron.
“We’re proud to be a part of Louisiana and we understand LSU, what it means”, Orgeron said. Despite disappointing records in recent seasons, this is not a rebuilding job that will require long-term patience.
