‘Fantastic Beasts’ Timeline Confirmed by J.K. Rowling
“Doctor Strange” the latest entry in the Marvel movie canon came in second in the weekend box office.
The sci-fi adventure “Arrival” placed fourth with $12.1 million, followed by the comedy “Almost Christmas” with $7.3 million.
Jeff Goldstein, the “Harry Potter” films’ president of domestic distribution, said that while the first weekend showing saw mostly adults, he’s expecting a younger audience by Thanksgiving, when classes are done.
And Eddie – who has five-month-old daughter Iris with his wife Hannah Bagshawe – is hopeful that the fans will warm to the Fantastic Beasts franchise as much as they did to the Harry Potter series. The animated feature “Trolls” landed in third place with $17.5 million, just falling short of nabbing second place from “Doctor Strange”.
The movie is the first official attempt by Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling to write a screen play for a movie. While Eddie Redmayne’s character, Newt Scamander, will continue with the franchise, producer David Heyman says he’ll likely be more of a supporting player in some of the future outings. The family film, featuring the voices of Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, has now made $116.2 million (£94 million) at the US box office.
However, while the profits were healthy at the box office this weekend, not all newcomers performed as well as Fantastic Beasts.
Also bombing were boxing drama Bleed For This and teen dramedy, The Edge Of Seventeen, starring Hailee Steinfeld. Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick are the main voices of this movie, that gained over 17,5 million dollars this weekend and 116,2 million dollars since the release.
Critics gave the movie 75% positive reviews, according to Rottentomatoes.com.
“Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk“, about a soldier who returns home from war an uncomfortable hero, posted one of the worst wide-release openings in recent history.
