Spurs ‘unlucky’ in loss to Chelsea – Poch
Chelsea stayed at the top of the Premier League after coming from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after earlier winners Manchester City and Liverpool also briefly scaled summit on a topsy turvy day. “Against a team in very good form at a good level, we competed really well in the first half”.
After a seventh straight Premier League win, Antonio Conte says he’s happy how Chelsea fought after being down 1-0. “I’m relishing it at the moment and I just want to keep on playing football and enjoying myself whenever I’m out there”, the Nigerian concluded.
Goals either side of half time, a beauty from Pedro in the 45th minute and Moses’ 52nd minute victor, turned a game that Spurs had dominated completely on its head.
Facing a resolute Tottenham side at home, it was the Spurs who scored early in the 11 minute through Christian Eriksen to set up an enticing contest.
“I think together we found the right solution to win the game”, Conte added.
Pedro’s equaliser had come against the run of play, but the momentum was all with Chelsea early in the second half, with Moses striking six minutes after the restart.
And the visitors suffered their first loss of the season as Conte’s Blues responded from conceding a first Premier League goal in 601 minutes, since the 40th minute of the loss at Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Moussa Sissoko, Tottenham’s £30 million summer signing from Newcastle United, has not shown enough in training or matches to be involved in the first team. We are out of the Champions League and that is a little bit tough and after Monaco I said maybe we can not cope in both competitions.
“We work very hard, we’re committed, we’ve got a lot of character – we showed that last week at West Ham and in the first half here – but we need to be more consistent”.
Chelsea’s run of clean sheets against Tottenham’s unbeaten run – something had to give.
“We continue to play in the right way”.
“It wasn’t easy. When you go 1-0 down, you need a good reaction”.
Tottenham has only one win in 10 games and looks incapable of challenging again for its first title since 1961.
“The back four, you get Alderweireld back, you get Rose back, you get a fully fit squad, and I think Tottenham are excellent”.
The Blues lost back-to-back top-flight matches to the Reds and Arsenal two months ago to leave many pundits questioning their title credentials.
