Trump wins Michigan two weeks after Election Day
And they are going to be voting in a few years – look out!
And although Clinton won the popular vote by at least 2 million votes, Trump decisively won the electoral vote with victories in several large swing states. During the debate, some delegates felt that a direct popular election would lead to the election of each state’s favorite son, and none would emerge with sufficient popular majority to govern the country.
For good measure, Trump boasted last week, “If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y. Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily”.
Mr Trump has 290 electoral college votes, compared to Ms Clinton’s 232 votes.
As Podesta was out addressing the crowd, a frustrated Clinton finally gave in and asked her aides for the phone. That’s a tiny fraction of the statewide vote, the closest in the state’s presidential history. But she trails there and in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by too many votes to trigger an automatic recount, said Richard Wolf with the USA Today newspaper. Trump and Clinton spent very little time in those two states but for different reasons. Clinton racked up millions of votes in heavily populated states like California and NY, but her large margins of victory there were rendered essentially meaningless, Sanders said.
We all remember what happened on Election day. As it is, the votes of 2 million Americans have been discounted.
Campaign chairman John Podesta was sent to tell the Clinton crowd in Manhattan’s Javits Center to go home but assured them that every vote would be counted.
Some Clinton followers simply can’t accept the fact that Trump was elected.
As so often is the case with guarantees of liberty written into the Constitution, the founders were absolutely right on the Electoral College.
“I think that’s the genius of the Electoral College”. The electors can vote any way they wish, so when we vote for the president, we are really voting for an elector. It’s the first time a Republican candidate won the state since George H.W. Bush in 1988.
But the idea of government by democracy has become newly popular among many people, because of the November 8 election.
