Fox News Analyst McFarland Joins Trump Team
While Trump won in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, he holds a slim lead in MI, where a Republican presidential candidate hadn’t won since 1988.
Trump made headlines nearly immediately after winning the election by having his daughter Ivanka present during his first face-to-face meeting with a world leader, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Trump’s team ignored questions about the looming recounts and remained focused on the daunting task of building an administration from scratch. The move brings yet another woman to the inner circle of the Trump team and adds some much needed national security experience to the table.
His transition team did not respond to requests to clarify his Cuba policy, which was inconsistent during the campaign.
Before this McFarland also seems to be harsh for the foreign policies of Barack Obama as a commentator for Fox News.
Trump has vowed to reverse Obama’s executive orders in a number of areas, including immigration and gun control.
The also called for recounts in MI and Pennsylvania.
Central to the list were the principles that the United States should never go to war if its national security were not threatened, and then only with the mission of winning decisively. It takes 270 to win the presidency.
McFarland dismissed suggestions that Trump should look at global interests, rather than US interests, in making policy decisions.
“The results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what Jill Stein is doing”, he said in the statement, which didn’t mention Clinton’s involvement.
President-elect Donald Trump is planning to name K.T. McFarland, who was an aide in several Republican administrations before becoming a Fox News analyst, as his deputy national security advisor.
On that list are Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, former SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who is considered a contender for homeland security secretary. They see him as one of the causes of the widespread acceptance of outside money being allowed into political campaigns.
Mr McGahn, a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), had been the chief counsel of the Trump campaign and was one of the few members of the Republican establishment to embrace the outsider candidate.
McFarland held national security posts in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations, and has worked closely with Republican security mavens Henry Kissinger and Caspar Weinberger.
Mr Trump confirmed the nominations in a statement from his transition team on Friday. According to the news site the 47-year-old has longstanding familial ties to the Trump empire. A spokesman said no more major decisions are expected before Monday.
