SC Gov. Haley accepts Trump’s UN Ambassador offer

On Wednesday, Haley became the first woman and first minority chosen by President-elect Donald Trump for his Cabinet.

Born in Bamberg, South Carolina, the daughter of Indian immigrants, Governor Haley became the first female governor of her home state in 2011 and is now the youngest governor in the country.

Betsy DeVos, a billioniare Republican donor and schools reformer, has been named education secretary.

Injecting the first diversity into his Cabinet-to-be, Donald Trump has today selected two Republican women who had unflattering things to say about him during the presidential campaign.

Trump choosing Nikki Haley may seem a little odd.

Trump calls DeVos “a brilliant and passionate education advocate”. Trump wrote on Twitter in March.

If Haley is confirmed by the Senate, she will be the first female and first non-white appointed to a cabinet-level position in the Trump administration.

A senior diplomat felt encouraged that Trump chose a “political heavyweight” for the position.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence said that Romney is “under active and serious consideration” to be secretary of state.

A few years ago, the Bush administration appointed John Bolton as the USA ambassador.

Haley’s appointment marks several firsts.

“I congratulate her on her nomination and I look forward to working closely with her”, the Ambassador told reporters when asked if he had any concerns that Haley has pretty much zero foreign policy experience. She said she would stay as governor while waiting for congressional approval.

Ms Haley threw her support behind Senator Marco Rubio of Florida during the Republican party primaries.

Mrs Haley has two children, was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa and raised a Sikh but later converted to Christianity.

The 44-year-old has since converted to Christianity.

She has expressed concern about the security checks in place for Syrian refugees resettled in her state.

DeVos said in her own statement, “The status quo in education is not acceptable”. DeVos’ husband, Dick, is an heir to the Amway fortune and a former president of the company.

Batra said with the appointment of Haley, Trump declares that America will no longer act insecure and “engage in John Boltonesque war lust or arrogance”, and in its place use Charm and Respect as its preferred diplomatic arsenal.

Gov. Nikki Haley has developed a national reputation as a racial conciliator who led the charge to bring down the Confederate flag at the Statehouse and guided SC through one of its darkest moments, the massacre at a black church. Both Bannon and attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions have been strident immigration opponents.
