Vasyl Lomachenko Stops Nicholas Walters – Who’s Next?
After Saturday night’s convincing win- in a post-fight interview, Vasyl Lomachenko called out Francisco Vargas, the reigning WBC Super Featherweight champ.
Roberto Duran was one of the greatest fighters that ever lived and even to this day, the Panamanian legend has not been able to live down his infamous “No Mas” incident in his rematch with “Sugar” Ray Leonard.
“No”, he said. “I don’t”.
While promoter Arum understands that a fight with Mayweather is what interests Pacquiao the most – but since the American retired and is seemingly not interested in a rematch – a bout with Lomachenko could be the next best option for Pacquiao’s camp. “I knew it would take four rounds and then I went to work on him”, said Lomachenko.
All the while, Lomachenko, a southpaw making the first defense of the 130-pound title he won by blistering highlight-reel fifth-round knockout of Roman “Rocky” Martinez in June, peppered Walters with a two-handed attack.
Many boxing fans and indeed a certain well known boxer believe Walters quit in the ring himself however. Lomachenko, a two-division world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, gave Walters a boxing lesson, demonstrating brilliance in all facets of the game. “I asked myself if I can still fight, and I made a decision to come back and continue the journey of my career”.
“Linares struggled in that fight and early on Crolla looked favourite to win it until he got hurt”.
“He told me literally that he just couldn’t continue”, Weeks said. Simply absurd. The opening rounds were a feeling out process, Lomachenko taking the nod with crisp combinations in the closing stages. I very much respect Manny Pacquiao. “My goal is to be the No. 1 pound for pound fighter”. Manny Pacquiao has also been mentioned as a possible future opponent.
Lomachenko wants to do the fight – but NOT in the UK.
Lomachenko captured his first word title, the IBF featherweight crown, in just his third fight.
The possibilities are endless for boxing’s next star.
