McCoy rallies Bills to 28-21 win over Jaguars
Earlier, Chris Ivory had been a bull on Jacksonville’s first-quarter drives, rushing nine times for 44 yards and a score, but he soon left and never returned with a hamstring injury.
Those plays came immediately for the Bills in the third quarter. With it seemingly a foregone conclusion that Bradley will be fired after the season, Bortles has to prove to the incoming staff that he can still be the player around which Jacksonville should build the franchise. The Bills have some injuries on the offense and RB LeSean McCoy had surgery on his thumb this week so even if he does play he will obviously not be a 100%. The defensive back appeared to get a hand on Robinson to prevent him from turning his body to make the catch, and the ball was incomplete. We see a similar close game in Buffalo.
Taylor, McCoy and the Bills again answered – driving 76 yards in eight plays to retake the lead for good. The kicked the second half off by allowing LeSean McCoy to run essentially untouched down the field for a 75 yard touchdown. The Bills also got a 43-yard punt return from Brandon Tate late in the second quarter to the Jaguars’ 22 to set up their initial touchdown.
“It’s like we’re back”, said cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman. “But his corner bailed and Sammy did a great job of beating (Jalen) Ramsey and I was able to get it out”. Maybe just go in there and getting tackled for zero, I’d try to make something happen.
Buffalo took over with 3:25 left and ran out the clock.
“Felt good just being out there with the guys”, Watkins said.
On a day when their offense wasn’t doing anything of substance, Buffalo has been finding sparks anywhere they can.
The Jacksonville Jaguars just can’t find wins. “Just being out there on the field, I didn’t really care about catching the ball”.
The Bills were finally able to break through after some awful coaching decisions by Gus Bradley late in the first half. “I mean, that’s what it comes down to”. “We just wanted one first down and ice the game”. “Obviously we thought we had the stop on the third down, we get a penalty”.
Hurns took a short pass from Bortles and ran to the pylon for a 12-yard touchdown that gave the Jaguars a 21-20 edge on the first play of the fourth quarter. “So there’s plenty of things to work on but I know with this group, it’s a hard-working group and I trust and I believe that we’ll get it fixed”. “In the second half, we didn’t do that”.
That touchdown would prove to be the game victor as each team would exchange punts, then Jacksonville would come up short on a 4th down play that might make people scratch their head. Three plays later, Taylor ran in from the seven to give Buffalo the lead back. “They [the Bills] come out and hit two big ones”.
Following the victory, the Buffalo Bills moved to 6-5 and will travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders, a matchup that pits the Bills against one of the teams who can potentially be standing in their way of the playoffs. The officiating was suspect for sure, but you can look at three or four situations in the game where the Jaguars didn’t execute didn’t the play with the precision necessary and it’s what led to their ultimate demise. “He’s such a difference-maker as a player and hopeful he can play a little more and more because we certainly need him and we’re a different team with him”. That’s tough. We have to get that mental toughness to withstand the long fight.
