Keep your Christmas tree from going up in flames

“We try to grow a variety of stuff because people come looking for a particular tree and leaving with something else”, said Roba.
Early tree buyers can steer toward trees that tend to dry out slower, like Fraser and balsam firs. Economist say Americans will spend about $6 billion dollars on Christmas decorations and trees all in hopes of making their Christmas bright.
“It’s very deceptive out here in the fields”. They stick to spruce trees, which Chris Trimpey said are “fuller, and they seem to hold the needles better”.
They hope to send 100 Christmas trees to families serving our country on military bases in the United States and internationally.
So firefighters urge South Georgians to check their trees before they buy them, and to keep them watered this holiday season.
“Last weekend we sold 50 percent more trees than we sold a year ago at this time”, said Tom Nieman, the owner of Nieman’s Christmas Trees.
“Get a fresh cut on it today if you are going to put it up and water it today”.
The Lewis family, visiting Vermont from Long Island for the Thanksgiving weekend, said picking out their tree from Russell’s property has become an annual tradition. Some of the farms are production only, but many offer cut your own trees. Recent estimates by the U.S. Department of Agriculture peg the number of dead trees in California forests at more than 102 million.
“I like cutting down the tree. We always have to have a big, cool one”, Abby said.
“Well, everything is pretty dry”, Cole said.
Hines Daniels, 32, Mifflinburg, was there with his nieces and nephews, his stepdaughter Sarah Moyer, 15, who was holding her 10-month-old cousin, Cailynne.
Small trees will be provided and can be kept after the festival.
