Jeff: Louisiana native Ed Orgeron the new head coach at LSU
Reports on Saturday had Herman asking for $6 million a year and LSU refusing.
“We’re going to take our time”, Orgeron added.
The Louisiana native has been with LSU since 2015, and he took over as interim head coach in September after Les Miles was sacked.
What was in Orgeron’s binder?
Texas acted quickly to snag Herman, who has only two years of experience as a head coach but is 22-4 with the Cougars, with a 9-3 mark this season after Friday’s loss to Memphis.
“This is a great day for LSU and for all of Louisiana”, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said. “I put all those things down and it became our program here at LSU”.
Orgeron has insisted that he learned from his mistakes as a first-time coach and has worked to correct them, which he has shown in relatively successful interim stints in Los Angeles and Baton Rouge. Heading into Saturday’s Iron Bowl against Auburn (a 30-12 victory), Alabama was averaging 477.6 yards and 40.3 points despite only gaining 323 yards November 5 in a 10-0 win at LSU.
Officials with the football program tweeted Saturday morning that LSU will hold a news conference at noon, bringing an end to the search for Les Miles’ replacement.
LSU has lost just two of its 20 commitments for the 2017 recruiting class since Les Miles was sacked. The first also was in the SEC – at MS from 2005 to 2007.
Those wanting a big-name coach say Orgeron’s five wins in his seven games as interim coach is Fool’s Gold. We have one of the best backs in the country coming back next year in Derrius Guice. That drought was extended to six straight earlier this month when Alabama beat the Orgeron-led Tigers 10-0 in Baton Rouge. Orgeron was recruited by LSU and initially committed there, but later made a decision to follow Hebert to Northwestern State.
“With a Tier One University, fertile recruiting ground, upgraded facilities including a new indoor practice facility slated to be completed next fall and a roster full of driven and talented student-athletes, the next leader of the Houston Football program will have an outstanding opportunity to compete for championships, maintain our program’s national prominence and continue the H-TownTakeover”. LSU’s two losses since Orgeron was promoted came against No. 1 Alabama and 13 Florida, the Southeastern Conference East Division champion.
Then, there’s the legion of fans and media, wanting a big-name coach, who touted Herman as an offensive genius. The school also reportedly went after Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Bush, who is now with the Buffalo Bills, tweeted: “LSU just got better #respect and congrats to Ed Orgeron on the new job”.
“Oh, you think I’m a happy camper or something?”
The things in Orgeron’s “blueprint, or mindset” for LSU’s offensive future include: a dual-threat quarterback, a heavy use of tight ends in the passing game and, in regards to LSU – a ferocious run game is imperative. You have a good girl now who everyone likes.
