LSU removes interim tag, names Ed Orgeron head coach
For sure, he will make an effort to retain some members of Miles’ coaching staff – defensive coordinator Dave Aranda tops that list after LSU ranked in the top 15 nationally in both total defense and scoring defense this season – but there are sure to be changes. LSU is known for having a cooky personality like Les Miles on the sidelines (just as the Saints have Sean Payton), and LSU fits that bill.
Nov 17, 2012; Baton Rouge, LA, USA; LSU Tigers athletic director Joe Alleva speaks at a press conference following a victory over the Ole Miss Rebels at Tiger Stadium. Orgeron said he expects to be judged by how the Tigers do against the Tide in the future.
One source told SB Nation that Orgeron will push “first and foremost” for large compensation packages for his assistants, specifically a “premier” offensive coordinator. Fans and players have all endorsed Orgeron as the head coach, voicing their belief in him.
LSU has chose to keep Ed Orgeron (OH’-jer-ahn), giving the interim football coach the job on a permanent basis, a person familiar with the decision has told The Associated Press. It was something that we knew. We’ll see how he proves himself with him being back in the spotlight, but casting doubt based on a coaching record that is mostly made up from events that transpired a decade ago seems unideal. “We know where his heart is”.
“He surprised a lot of people”, Mrs. Orgeron said.
“By the end of that process, our decision was clear”, Alleva said in a university release.
“That’s the best phone call I’ve ever received”, Coco said.
The Tigers set multiple single-game school records under Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, whom Orgeron elevated from tight ends coach when Cam Cameron followed Miles out the door. Alleva called the list of names Orgeron had in mind “phenomenal”. We won two national championships together.
Orgeron has shielded himself from the social media back-and-forth that escalated since the Tigers’ 10-0 loss to Alabama on November 5 and which reached a crescendo Saturday morning when news broke of his hiring.
The next move has to be to get a new offensive coordinator and it is believed that Orgeron will be making a “hard” play at luring Alabama OC Lane Kiffin to Baton Rouge, per Paul Finebaum of ESPN.
Orgeron coached under Kiffin when Kiffin was head coach at Tennessee in 2009 and again when Kiffin became head coach at Southern California in 2010. He listened to every game on the radio with his now-deceased father and envisioned former LSU great Ronnie Estay devouring ball-carriers.
“We’re going to lock down the state of Louisiana first”. We hope you’ll help. He’ll have a better understanding of his players’ minds to hopefully get the most out of his many four and five-star players. “I really feel like anybody he brings in is going to be good”. So imagine the pride Orgeron felt when LSU officials told him early Saturday morning that he was their man. “We know where coach O’s heart is”.
“We’re proud to be a part of Louisiana and we understand LSU, what it means”, Orgeron said.
