Apple Plans Curved OLED iPhone Screen
This news comes mere days after KGI Securitie’s reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s research talked about three new iPhone variants that Apple might come up with next year.
As per the report from the Wall Street Journal, the company has its suppliers increase the production of slim OLED displays sporting higher resolutions than Samsung made displays. A new and improved 3D camera is also said to be a part of the components, so let us see how that pans out in the future.
Another feature that the new 8 could get is the wireless charging.
iPhone users who are willing to pay a little extra will likely enjoy an upgrade next year to the crystal-clear organic light emitting display screen, a curved and higher-contrast replacement of the LED technology used in the latest iPhone models.
If you fear that fingerprint sensor will disappear, don’t make a big deal out of it. Apple will find a way to include it in the display.
Some reports suggest that the home button will be sacrificed in the new phone, which will sport a curved glass bezel-less look.
The Cupertino company has been battling slowing smartphone sales and is under pressure to deliver a hit phone when the iPhone marks its 10th anniversary next year.
Apple AAPL has been criticized in the last several months for not offering numerous innovations its competitors have. However, it says that Apple’s plans aren’t final yet. According to News Everyday, one of the TFT-LCD models will measure 5.5 inches and the other model at 4.7 inches.
And if it is it’s likely to be more expensive than a standard iPhone, though apparently the OLED handset could be one of several models launched, so if you don’t want or can’t afford it there are likely to still be cheaper versions of the iPhone 8.
The Wall Street Journal warned that Apple may bail on a curved screen entirely, citing Sharp as one potential supplier that isn’t convinced it should spend $5 billion investing in OLED technology to build the panels for Apple. If the iPhone 8 does roll out with a curved screen, it’s unclear how successful this will truly be for the company. It’s estimated that LCD-based smartphone displays generated $20.8 billion in revenue during 2015 compared to $10.6 billion for OLED displays.
