Last year, total online sales revenue was $3.05 billion for the day. Online spending increased 19 percent that day to $1.57 billion, according to Adobe.

After going to brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday, holiday shoppers are now heading online in search of bargains.

USA online sales gained momentum on Cyber Monday and are set to surpass initial expectations by hitting a record US$3.39 billion as consumers snapped up deals on the busiest day of the year for internet shopping. Walmart went live with its Cyber Monday deals at 12:01 a.m. on Friday.

Clothing and accessories tend to be big sellers on Cyber Monday, and many apparel companies are offering significant savings. “If it’s not on sale on Black Friday, it’ll probably be on sale on Cyber Monday”, said Rebecca Lehmann, manager of content marketing at Brad’s Deals.

That’s a startling change from a year ago, when in-store sales on Saturday and Sunday were nearly non-existent, according to Marshal Cohen, chief retail industry analyst at the NPD Group. And it turns out EBay was on to something with its newly minted “Mobile Wednesday”, the day before Thanksgiving when it expected travelers to shop from the road. Some of the hottest items on Amazon, the Kindle and Fire, a new and improved Elmo for the kids, the popular Kitchenaid mixer and more.

On Cyber Monday, Amazon Prime members will get early access to a wide range of deals, with free two-day shipping and same day delivery on many assortments.

Aside from PlayStation, Xbox and Steam sale on GameStop Cyber Monday deals, the HTC Vive VR is also offered with $100 discount. Shopper Helper sites like CNET and RetailMeNot (18.5 percent of sales) grew by 15.6 percent and email (19.9 percent of sales) grew by 32.7 percent.

“I think it’s both convenience and the ability for them to shop and look for pricing, better deals and get their shopping done quicker”, d’Aquin said.
