Capital Region residents busy buying Christmas trees
In olden times (and in Roman Catholic tradition) the tree was not put up until the afternoon of Christmas Eve. It’s tradition, right? Bad luck to go early?
Tree care doesn’t stop at tree upkeep though, as the workers have to plan for dry seasons, which they saw this year. Boy and girl Scouts were selling fresh Christmas trees at Bunnings on the weekend.
If you purchase an artificial tree, always look for the label “Fire Resistant”.
There’s a bit more to it than simply hanging up ornaments. “We have this one family that comes nearly every year”. Only the rule you grew up with.

“I like bringing her because it’s just a good night out as a family”, Althea said, noting that this was their second time seeing the parade.

Kodey says you’re better off cutting it down yourself, instead of buying one that’s good to go. Just like flowers at home, a tree needs to be watered, so “having a water-holding stand makes a massive difference”.
“We will help anyone who raises a hand asking for help”, said Russell Mascari, past vice commandant for the league.
His trees are shipped fresh from North Carolina and MI. He said they used to set up near Mr. Fish Seafood and an old truck stop. Others stayed near the barns where pre-cut trees were available. “We get our trees from OR and Sacramento and (Larry and Jerry) even travel in the summertimes to visit farms and makes sure the trees are good quality”, Jeremy Gabriel said.
