Some African-Americans applaud Castro’s efforts at equality

Since Castro’s death, Cuban-Americans have congregated in the Little Havana portion of Miami for nothing short of a festival.
“It’s nothing compared to the true friendship between all Canadians and all Cubans and I look forward to continuing to build on that”, he continued.
“We’ll see what will happen with the Trump administration”, said Alfredo Gonzalez, American Airlines’ director for the Caribbean. She’s confident that he will stand up to the Cuban government.
“We have lived for 50 years with the blockade so we are going to continue living the same way with or without Trump”, Teresa Almentero, 52, a cigar roller, said after paying tribute to Castro in Revolution Square. “The concept of opening with Cuba is fine”.
With concerts and sports events cancelled, some Cubans gathered to discuss the news but they were muted and reflective, the BBC’s Cuba correspondent Will Grant said.
Castro, who died Friday night at 90, made the issue a national cause celebre and led huge demonstrations demanding Elian be returned to his father.
“This seems to be the wrong time to turn our backs on young entrepreneurs in Cuba”, said Gutierrez, a former commerce secretary under President George W. Bush.
“The Obama government, now and again and again and again gave away one chip after another of what could have been chips for a negotiating settlement”, he told CTV News.
Obama’s statement on Saturday morning took pains not to characterize the Cuban revolutionary leader, saying, “History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure”.
