Clinton asked to challenge USA election results, which ‘may have been hacked’
President-elect Donald Trump’s extensive foreign business dealings have have some critics anxious Trump Organization business ties could affect America’s reaction to global events, The New York Times reported.
SC law requires electors to cast their votes for the candidate who won the state’s balloting. Five times in US history and twice this century the popular vote victor has “lost” the presidential election because of the slavery-tainted Electoral College. Even the House of Representatives no longer represents the popular will. Electoral votes are instead awarded based on state-by-state results. In 2000, George W. Bush lost the popular vote by a tiny fraction – half a percent – and beat Al Gore in the electoral college by an equally small margin – less than 1 percent.
How did the college originate?
If Clinton had worked as hard over the past 16 years to abolish the Electoral College as she worked to win the Democratic nomination, she would be moving back into the White House in January. Some framers wanted popular election of the commander in chief. “All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others”.
Even Trump has criticized the Electoral College.
That means, when all the votes are counted and Clinton’s popular-vote edge is official, it probably will in a manner of speaking have hinged entirely on the results in California.
The Senate has been rigged since 1787; with two senators from Wyoming and two from California, it is absurdly undemocratic. The winner-takes-all approach used in most states today undermines the true intent of the founders, who lived in a time when cities weren’t so large, suburbs didn’t really exist and rural areas carried almost as much clout as the cities.
The Constitution says nothing about “winner take all”.
The fact that so many Californians are crestfallen about the Trump-Clinton outcome isn’t a reason to eliminate the Electoral College – it shows the need to keep it.
The “faithless elector” campaign is very likely to fail. Green Party officials filed for a recount in Wisconsin on Friday after reports of possible voting discrepancies in areas that used paper ballots versus those where electronic voting took place.
Have there been “faithless electors” before? If the person winning the popular vote became president campaigns would look entirely different and candidates would employ completely different strategies.
Only a handful of those have been in the modern era.
What happens if no candidate receives the 270-vote majority? Why should we trust a system like this, where my vote is important, but not as important as an elector’s?
State GOP Chairman Matt Moore is one of two statewide Republican electors.
Views were expressed that it was not necessarily a case of President-Elect Trump winning the election, but rather, Secretary Clinton, losing the election because of the concerns regarding integrity and USA security, with President-Elect Trump’s victory also representing a rejection of globalisation and the political establishment of Washington.
