Lauren Graham & Alexis Bledel React to ‘Gilmore Girls’ Final Scene
Like so many people, in Lorelai and Rory, I see pieces of myself, my mother, and my daughter. They had always had a creative connection, so it would make sense for them to reconnect that way, but could it mean something romantic too?
We spoke with Graham and Bledel about reprising their career-defining characters.
Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino always said that she planned to end the show with four particular words, but didn’t get to follow through on her intial plan, as she left ahead of it seventh and final season in 2007.
Given the way the final episode ended, it’s understandable. Did you realize this was a thing? “I don’t know, it’s hard to say”.
Let us know what you thought in the comments. I know I should, but I don’t have a hankering for it. David Sutcliffe called the pregnancy reveal “impactful and smart”, and said, “It’s also like a ideal set-up.gotta have four more!” We’ll keep you posted!
Graham: It is incredible. As a bonus, viewers also get to enjoy the return of the “series-defining and nearly relentlessly seductive repartee”. “Eventually, I read it and it was very satisfying”. They really compliment one another and are each really distinctly drawn characters in their own right, so you care about both of them as well as what they mean to each other. Very opposite of Rory.
“It did surprise me”, she admitted in an interview with ET Online.
But it turns out the song isn’t just any song, and the people behind it have a relationship similar to Lorelai and Rory. “That will put you in a different category”. Ultimately in season 3, Lorelai uses a combination of inheritance, personal loans and investments from friends to purchase an abandoned historic home to convert into an inn with her business partners.
“It was just like, oh I get it”.
But within the first episode of the four-part revival, Sherman-Palladino addresses the longstanding query about the Frenchman in a conversation between Michel and Lorelai at the Inn: he is gay and is planning to adopt a son with his husband, Frederic.
Graham: The table read was insane. We saw Lorelai’s shocked face, then. Bam! I need more: more to do, more responsibility, more money. “I can still do this”.
“In the world of family, in the world of life, it’s never ending”, she said.
So, be warned. If you haven’t watched the series yet, bookmark this article now and come back later.
“The first set I remember seeing was our house”. So, there was a lot of us asking the 22-year-old, ‘What happened with this?
Q: How was it getting through a 90-minute episode, dialogue-wise?
