The Final Hero Will Be Joining the Three Show Crossover
The elemental challenge of these crossovers is to make each hour work as an episode of that particular series as well, and apart from the (literal) running thread of Wally wanting to participate in the effort, it’s impressive that the first “Invasion!” leg managed to root all the internal and external strife around Barry’s mistakes changing the timeline.
Tonight, “The Flash” entered with a clever flash-forward to the thick of an epic superhero battle, one that is apparently going to feature the likes of Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, and Kara Danvers all together trying to figure out how to stop the Dominators … or at least that’s what we thought.
The Dominators stole Sarah, Thea, Ray, Diggle, and Oliver. “Where Sara says, ‘Hey, do you maybe want to get a drink when this is all over?’ and Kara says, ‘I think you want to meet my sister.’ Just start getting the Sara-Alex shippers going”. “Team-up. Ever!” And Arrow looks to be even better than that when the alien visit brings a dream world or fugue state which brings back familiar faces from the past. However, when the Legends of Tomorrow arrive, they bring with them a recording that happens to mention Flashpoint sent by an older Barry from the future. It was directed by Gregory Smith with a story by Greg Berlanti and teleplay by Phil Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim.
Supergirl will return in 2017.
And then there’s the message from the future version of Barry that Jax (Franz Drameh) and Stein (Victor Garber) discovered on the Waverider – one that warns no one can be trusted, not even Barry himself.
“It definitely is a big mark for Oliver’s emotional journey this season”, executive producer Wendy Mericle told Nerdist.
Barry’s Flashpoint jaunt will continue to have lasting repercussions – especially now that the rest of the heroes know about it – but perhaps the biggest ongoing concerns relate to things we haven’t seen yet. And as the series is nearing its mid-season break, it is being assumed that they’ll make their appearance in Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9.
Andrew Kreisberg: There’s a villain coming up who’s another one of the husk villains that was created by Alchemy, so there’s that to deal with. Reviewing the headine of his disappearance in 2024, Barry realizes this could all be part of a larger issue.
Supergirl rises to battle The Flash and Green Arrow, but she is not alone, more heroes have fallen under the dominators spell. This means that for Barry to decide on The Flash that he needs to recruit Supergirl to fight off the menace of the Dominators – an alien race invading your planet – he would either have to do it on the previous week’s episode of The Flash, or have a retrospective scene or two the day after Supergirl airs.
According to IGN US, the storyline of “Medusa” is the end of the episode. “Oh my god. He just got so much hotter”. So to call the crossover a major turning point for the one show that kickstarted the “Arrow-verse” of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow would be a massive understatement. It is just another story in the scarlet speedster’s third season.
