Trump Wants Romney to Apologize
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly furious over comments his former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway has made about Mitt Romney, who is under consideration for the secretary of state post in his Cabinet. The extraordinary public nature of the effort has also stirred speculation that it could be a Trump-approved attempt to humiliate a prominent Republican who staunchly opposed him throughout the presidential campaign.
He added: “You know Mitt Romney said some very bad things but now we are seeing chief executive Donald J. Trump who’s going to run our country like a business, surround himself to the best and brightest”. “Gov. Romney wanted to be president, not secretary of state, and you have to ask the question: When he goes overseas, is he going be the secretary of state for President Trump or is he going to be Mitt Romney’s own secretary state?”
While Conway said whoever Trump picks will have her “full support and respect”, she said the appointment shouldn’t be the “cost of admission” for party unity. The job of Secretary of State is also an odd choice, considering the stark differences both men have when it comes to USA relations with Russian Federation.
A few months later, Romney unloaded on Trump, calling him a “phony, a fraud” and asking Republicans to unite against him.
Transition team spokesman Jason Miller on Monday refused to comment on those reports in his regular call with reporters and emphasized that Trump will be the one to make all decisions regarding the makeup of his future administration.
“My concern is Mitt Romney is a bit of a lone wolf and might not take the advice or the direction of President-elect Trump”.
The freeze between two men appeared to thaw after they spoke by phone following the election.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Fox News host Sean Hannity last week both voiced displeasure at reports that Trump was considering Romney over former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. However, the larger “point is the volume & intensity of grass-roots resistance to Romney is breathtaking”, she also tweeted.
Giuliani is the preferred choice of Trump’s loyalists and grassroots supporters, while Romney is a favorite of establishment conservatives. Betsy Devos for education secretary, Kansas Congressman Mike Pompeo for director of the CIA, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley for United Nations ambassador and Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general.
There are others in the mix, officials said, including John Kelly, a retired general, and Sen.
Conway argued that Romney “attacked [Trump’s] character”.
