Bills hold off Jags for 28-21 win
But his status for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville remains up in the air.
As insane as it seems, the 75-yard touchdown run was the longest of LeSean McCoy’s career and it was quite impressive. The Jags defense also held the Bills passing attack to just 38 yards.
After coming from behind to win in Cincinnati last week, the Bills (6-5) own a winning record after 11 games for just the fourth time in 17 seasons.
Outside of his 75 yard TD run to open the third quarter, he averaged 1.4 yards per carry.
The Bills had the lead and the momentum. One of those wins was against the 9-2 Patriots, who were playing with third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett when the Bills beat them. Jacksonville’s biggest weakness was giving up plays over 15+ yards today. Buffalo scored a touchdown on their final possession of the first half but they only had to go 22 yards thanks to a 43 yard punt return from Brandon Tate. The NFL is so tough … there are great players everywhere. “We needed some breaks. In the second half, we didn’t do that”.
Maybe it’s the Bills just being overly cautious at practice with him by not taxing his body too much in that setting, but eventually you’d like for the receiver to ramp up enough to mimic a an actual game situation – and it doesn’t appear that Watkins was able to do that this week. Coach Rex Ryan assessed the recent red zone problems by saying the “lack of communication” and the penalties have haunted the Bills performance inside their 20-yard line.
The fact that Watkins felt no discomfort in his foot following Sunday’s game is a promising sign for both him and the Bills.
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is back from a foot injury and expected to start the Buffalo Bills’ Week 12 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It’s not all bad news on the injury front, however, as Watkins has been added back to the Bills’ 53-man roster and will suit up today for the first time in over two months.
The 75-yard scamper was the longest play from scrimmage of his career, topping his previous long of 66 yards. “That run was insane, then the pass that we had. We just have to stay positive as a team”. I know the west coast, they rolling over there. “That’s the expectation we have for everyone”. “So yeah, it left a bad taste in our mouth, we definitely aren’t overlooking them”.
“We’ve got to come out swinging”, Robey-Coleman said. “We’re going to be fighting all the way, though”. “We’re going to turn it around”.
Buffalo’s next opponent presents a dynamic pass rushing duo of Raiders’ edge rushers Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin.
Michael David Smith over at Pro Football Talk took some time on Monday morning to spell out the reasons for Jacksonville’s systemic dismantling of hope and he nailed at least one thing – the Jaguars have been patient with the wrong guy at head coach. On the ground, LeSean McCoy has rushed for 716 yards and seven touchdowns.
As Incognito sa it, “We’re happy to get a win”.
For the record: The Jaguars fell to 2-9 with their sixth consecutive loss on Sunday, 28-21, at Buffalo. Six of their nine losses have come by a touchdown or less. Although not resulting in any points, the Jaguars were able to establish the running game to control the pace of play.
“I think the health of Sammy is the big question, whether Robert’s healthy or not”, Ryan said.
One of the ways they could go is to utilize their tight ends more. “I’m not here to go out and make every play, but I’m here to help and do my job”. “We need to do more of that”.
