Giving Tuesday offers a chance to pay it forward
In the United States, we have a day for getting deals (Black Friday), a day to support local businesses (Small Business Saturday), and a day to buy goodies while shopping online (Cyber Monday).
From #GivingTuesday to the end of the calendar year, Crown Royal will donate a $1 to Packages From Home for every person that signs up with GoodWorld, a tech startup that facilitates charitable giving on social media.
Individuals are encouraged to reach out to organizations in their community to seek giving and pro-bono opportunities, volunteer their time, make financial donations, and discuss payroll giving with their employers.
Give back to parks on Tuesday and support safer neighborhoods, green spaces, education and more. Giving Tuesday is the newest trend of our holiday season.
-The Event runs from 8 a.m.to 7 p.m. Tuesday. “At HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, charitable donations have a significant impact on our ability to go above and beyond caring for you, your family and friends”, Kari Kempka, director of philanthropy at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, said in a press release. “A Facebook message letting people know about your favorite charity raises awareness and helps charities connect with new supporters”, she said. Search for nonprofits in your neighborhood and email them to see how you can help.
“The great thing about Giving Tuesday is, anybody can be a philanthropist”.
Giving Tuesday is celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving and this year, it will be held on November 29. United Way Sudbury, the Sudbury Community Foundation and Jazz Sudbury want to thank the community for their continual support. Those funds were raised by more than 700,000 people in 70 countries. Among households that donate to charity, one in four focus their contributions on political causes, according to marketing data and analytics company Acxiom.
You can look up a charity to ensure it’s legitimate on BBB.org where there’s also a scam tracker tool to report fraudulent organizations.
Millions of consumers spent more money online than ever before during Cyber Monday, and local charities are hoping to snag a little bit of that spending cash for a good cause. So check your chosen charity’s website. They are also offered help in setting up a donations page or in spreading the word that they are now part of Giving Tuesday.
