Tyreek Hill named AFC Offensive Player of the Week
“It didn’t happen for me”.
Prior to kick-off, many would’ve called Sunday night’s task near impossible for the Kansas City Chiefs: Go on the road, in front of a national television audience, against the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and leave Mile High Stadium with a win. The Chiefs defeated the Broncos 30-27 at the end of an overtime thriller as Hill provided all three of Kansas City’s touchdowns. Punting the football would likely mean that the game would end in a tie.
What’s next for both teams? .
The Broncos have won the AFC West each of the last five years but they’ve already lost to every team in the division. Hill made the catch and was touched down by the Broncos’ Bradley Roby.
And playing for the win – even on a 62-yard field goal attempt – is admirable.
He also said it was “important that if Denver had punted and ended up with the tie, it would be against the team that they are in the division with and has the same record, and they would remain tied”.
“Tonight was a bad night”, Von Miller said.
This is the second time he’s accomplished this after week one against San Diego, and whether or not these comebacks are just a fluke or a sign of things to come remains to be seen.
There are wins, and then there are stats, and those who focus on the latter like to point out that despite Smith’s 64 percent completion rate and passer rating in the 90s with Kansas City, his average yards-per-pass-play has never been over 7.4 yards, and he’s at 6.6 after the Denver game. Siemian held the ball for over nine seconds before firing the strike to Taylor.
So, sure. Why not the Chiefs?
Norwood recovered his first muff in the first half but it set up Kansas City’s safety.
15 – The Broncos committed 15 penalties worth 97 yards. He was led the Broncos to what should have been a win.
Three minutes for the Chiefs.
It turned out that Hill was just beginning. Also, while K.C. was out of timeouts, there was still the two-minute warning left, so – even if Fowler did take a knee near the goal line and the Broncos made a decision to run the clock out before kicking a chip shot field goal on fourth down – there still would have been some time left. Whew. Oh, and now Denver is currently out of the playoff picture, while the Chiefs control their destiny in the AFC West.
Kansas City took over at the Denver 48 with just over minute remaining in the overtime. The subsequent two-point conversion pass from Smith to Demetrius Harris tied the game.
Another answer by the Chiefs. He finished the game with 10 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection.
Cornerbacks Phillip Gaines and Kenneth Acker both made some nice plays during Sunday’s win, but both also gave up numerous plays that put the Chiefs’ defense in hard situations. Also, Siemian used his legs to extend plays when the pocket was collapsing. On the next third down try, Siemian rainbowed a pass to Fowler down the right side, but Bennie’s diving attempt was unsuccessful.
Gary Kubiak’s coaching blunder in the waning moments of the wildest game of this wacky National Football League season might ultimately doom the reigning Super Bowl champions.
McManus was confident as he trotted out for the 62-yarder even after one of Thomas Gafford’s snaps had skidded on the ground in regulation. 16 to Kelce. Santos makes the field goal.
Among the bright spots for the Broncos’ offense Sunday night was tight end A.J. Derby’s involvement. They made mistake after mistake after mistake.
Siemian won’t be facing many defenses down the stretch who can cause so much confusion like the Chiefs, and he was able to show his worth on Sunday.
