Leeds men encouraged to back campaign to end violence against women
On White Ribbon Day, community are invited to take the following White Ribbon Oath as a symbol of our region’s commitment to break the silence about men’s violence against women and families. Forty-five per cent of United Kingdom women have experienced some form of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, and at least 80,000 women suffer rape every year in the UK.
“The physical and emotional damage to victims can last a life time”.
Every domestic homicide in Alice Springs in the past three years has involved alcohol.
“On White Ribbon Day, I would like to pass on my gratitude to those New Zealanders who are passionately and tirelessly working to help victims feel safe and secure”, says Ms Adams.
“By supporting the campaign, men will show they will not commit violence against women, but also that they will not stand by and remain silent if they are aware of anyone else who is being violent”.
“It remains clear that a significant number of incidents still go unreported, which is something we must change”.
“Anybody can be affected by domestic abuse and as a constabulary we actively support police officers and staff who may need help”.
“So strangulation, pet abuse, we’re seeing an increase in the nature of domestic and family violence with ice and some of those really serious drugs, so we’re seeing an increase in those high risk factors around domestic and family violence”.

Forty-four per cent of domestic violence orders in the NT were breached and 44 per cent of domestic violence offenders were repeat offenders.
Mr Passmore said: “It is a sad reflection on our society that domestic abuse and domestic violence is so prevalent”.

Ten years later, the first White Ribbon Campaign was organised by a group of men in Canada after the brutal mass shooting of 14 female students at the University of Montreal.
This year, Gold Coast police are participating in several White Ribbon events across the Coast, including hosting a registered White Ribbon Event on Saturday 3 December.
