DirecTV joins list of competitors as alternative for cord-cutters
DirecTV Now comes in four package offerings: Live a Little with over 60 channels, Just Right with more than 80 channels, Go Big with over 100 channels, and Gotta Have it with more than 120 channels.
Stankey said DirecTV Now takes the cost out of a platform that will continue to be improved upon, and the savings are being passed back to customers. It will launch an ad-supported video on demand (VOD) channel in 2017 that will only be available for customers of DirecTV and DirecTV Now. Staying true to its word, AT&T has now officially announced that DirecTV Now will go live on November 30. They also want to entice current AT&T wireless customers by not counting DirecTV Now streaming toward their data cap.
AT&T will waive data charges for its wireless customers, a prospect that the FCC questioned as a possible violation of the spirit – if not the letter – of its net neutrality rules.

DirecTV Now’s upper-tier lineups includes sport-heavy offerings such as NBA TV, FS2, Golf, NHL, BBC World News, Sundance and Starz Encore channels. Premium channels like HBO and Cinemax can be added to a package for an additional $5 per channel.

These services are easy to sign up for and cancel but connecting them to a TV often requires an extra step or a new gadget, like an Apple TV. That latter package is the most intriguing, since AT&T will offer 100 channels for $35 a month as a limited-time promotion to attract early adopters. There are also restrictions on local affiliates for ABC, Fox, and NBC – in many major affiliate markets, users will get prime time television one day later.
And it’s already getting some exclusive celebrity content. Actress Reese Witherspoon’s new female-focused media venture, Hello Sunshine, will stream its video on demand channel exclusively on DIRECTV and DIRECTV NOW. DIRECTV’s satellite offering has pretty much every channel you can imagine, plus every sporting event and National Football League game.
