Ohio State University attacker hailed as ‘a soldier of the Islamic State’
President-elect Donald Trump on Monday thanked first responders for their quick action in response to reports of an active shooter situation at Ohio State University in Columbus.
COLUMBUS, Ohio-The police officer who fatally shot the Ohio State University attacker on Monday was an OSU graduate who was relatively new to the force. He expressed anxiety about being new on campus, having just transferred from Columbus State Community College.
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said the act bore the hallmarks of an attack carried out by someone who may have been self-radicalized. Just seconds after it began, officials said, Horujko shot the suspect dead when he allegedly refused to drop the knife.
Those gunmen were also killed by police.
In a statement, he said: “It bears all of the hallmarks of a terror attack carried out by someone who may have been self-radicalised”.
The post said the US should stop “interfering” in the Muslim world and referenced “lone wolf” attacks.
The incident happened just before 10 a.m. Monday when the suspect struck pedestrians with a auto, officials said.
Doubling down, the post later reads: “Stop the killing of the Muslims in Burma”. “It’s the media that put that picture in their heads”, Artan had aid.
Artan’s post did not mention Islamic State, but it praised Anwar al-Awlaki, a USA -born radical cleric linked to al Qaeda who was killed by a US drone strike in 2011.
If you look at most quote-unquote successful terror attacks in the USA theyve always had some touch point with law enforcement and been on law enforcements radar in some point in their radical trajectory, Hughes said.
Seven people have been taken to the hospital after an active shooter was reported at Ohio State’s campus on Monday morning, according to the Columbus Fire Department. It described him as a soldier of the group. The suspect, later identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, then got out and began stabbing passersby.
“There’s nothing in the files that would indicate any type of incident [while Artan was at the shelter]”, Woodyard said. Less than two hours later, OSU police said the scene was secure and police lifted the “shelter in place” alert.
Thousands of them have been fleeing into the forests and neighboring Bangladesh on the heels of a brutal military crackdown that followed a terrorist attack on police posts October 9, allegedly carried out by Rohingya militants. Somali refugees often spend some time in Pakistan before coming to the United States.
Four remained hospitalized Tuesday morning, the hospitals said.
A police officer and two other emergency personnel stand near a body lying near the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Chemistry building on North Campus. “At this point, we are thankful there were no life-threatening injuries”.
As of 9:45 a.m.at least one active shooter was said to be still unaccounted for and possibly on the loose.
But the cases have made the Somali community very sensitive to criticism and concerned over possible backlash.
Artan, a Muslim, was interviewed by the Ohio State student newspaper in August.
“If you look at most quote-unquote successful terror attacks in the US they’ve always had some touch point with law enforcement and been on law enforcement’s radar in some point in their radical trajectory”, Hughes said.
