Jets, Bowles surprised, disappointed Richardson hid arrest
“I was going to prepare for training camp the same way”.
Richardson spoke to his parents Thursday night about the latest incident and said he has to improve his “decision-making”. The coach called the most recent developments “upsetting” and “disappointing”. But he has to live with that. I’m not trying to. I can’t turn my back on him right now.
I survived, many of my friends did not.
A lot of coaches know when to drop in a line like that. They’re still standing behind me. Did Richardson really think that he could just ignore this situation and hope the Jets never found out about it, despite him being a high profile player and records of his arrest being released to the public. There was no ducking the issue, or equivocation. Right now, it may be the best thing for him to take a year away from the game and try to find himself as a person. Whatever comes his way, hopefully he understands that he has people there that’s in his corner. “And this has nothing to do with football”.
He has already lost his starting job to rookie Leonard Williams, who will receive most of the first-team snaps. We’re here for him.
No, pretty much (what I heard that) happened is what he offered that happened. Football is like a rollercoaster.
Richardson’s troubles will have a cascading effect on the Jets and his future. As indicated by court documents, Richardson was driving with a 12-year-old relative and two adult males. When the officers tried to apprehend him, he increased his speed and drove off the highway.
“He hasn’t been smart, and he hasn’t been clear in the head”, Bowles said Friday after practice. In another quote from that same interview, Richardson said “Seeing yourself going from Pro Bowl to second string, can’t do nothing but be disappointed in yourself”. You’re not just going to take anybody’s word for it anymore. Reports of the arrest didn’t surface until late Thursday, less than one hour after Richardson, commenting publicly for the first time on the suspension, vowed to stay clean.
We already knew it hasn’t been the best off-season for the young Sheldon Richardson. My family that was in the vehicle with me… Police said they spotted two cars traveling at “exceedingly high rates of speed” on Interstate 64, suspecting a road race. Like I said, we can win without him.
The Jets may wind up being without the talents of their 2014 leading sacker, for a good bit or maybe even all of this season.
Bowles sounded like he’s prepared to move on without Richardson. As reported by the probable cause statement, police also believed that Richardson should have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, but Lohmar told the Post-Dispatch that his office felt there wasn’t enough evidence on that charge.
