One in seven with HIV in Europe unaware of infection

The confidential tests are offered the week of November 28 – Dec. 2, coinciding with World AIDS Day on Thursday, Dec. 1.

According to UNAIDS, half of the 36 million or so people with HIV around the world have access to anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs), a figure that has doubled in five years. On Thursday UNICEF has came out with a report projecting that HIV infections among adolescents – now 250,000 a year – could rise dramatically over the next 15 years if more isn’t done to address sexual transmission among teens. Young women are facing a triple threat: a high risk of HIV infection, low rates of HIV testing and poor adherence to HIV treatment”. “To address this critical situation, we have made available a new action plan that all European countries endorsed in September 2016”.
