Hillary Clinton honours singer Katy Perry — UNICEF Gala
She stopped to talk with ET about the meaningful UNICEF honor, and what it meant for her to have Bloom by her side on the special night.
“He was a previous award recipient past year, so he knows it better than I”, the singer told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.
Perry has been an ambassador with the UNICEF since 2013.
Talks about the engagement of 32-year-old pop singer Katy Perry and the 39-year-old Orlando Bloom hit the internet as they were spotted walking around the NY city on November 28 with a sparkling rock on her ring finger.
Katy Perry’s been given a humanitarian award by the woman she supported during the USA presidential campaign – Hillary Clinton. She heaped praises upon Perry, saying that the singer is someone whose “powerful voice and creative lyrics” empower us to get back on our two feet when test and trials knock us down.
Identifying the “commitment” Perry has to the causes she believes in, Clinton shared her personal experience from the time she spent with the “Firework” singer. She was also one of Clinton’s highest-profile supporters, performing at the Democratic National Convention and at Get Out the Vote concerts for Clinton’s celebrity-heavy campaign.
The musician was accompanied to the ceremony by her boyfriend Orlando Bloom, but she left her new diamond ring at home, after it sparked engagement rumours earlier this week.
Perry appeared to flaunt the ring for photographers as she and Bloom arrived at The Polo Bar in Manhattan, according to Entertainment Tonight. And on Tuesday night, Clinton showed up at a UNICEF event to surprise Katy Perry.
Not to mention, the California girl was certainly feeling the love as she was seen cuddling up next to the Lord Of The Rings alum – who ironically won the same award a year ago. The “Roar” singer also gushed about Bloom to E!
It was one of the first public appearances by Clinton since she lost the November 8 election to hotel mogul Donald Trump, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets in USA political history. “We appreciate you for your incredible work and your heart”.
