GOP rejoices over Pelosi win
The standard rank-in-file leadership elections were cast into marginal disarray when Pelosi was challenged by the more centrist Democrat Tim Ryan of Ohio.
“I was proud to vote Nancy Pelosi as Democratic Leader and look forward to working with her in the 115 Congress”, Luján said in a statement. Pelosi’s 2002 victory over Hoyer in an earlier whip race launched her on the leadership career that eventually made her the first female House speaker, the USA government position second in line to the presidency, after the vice president.
In a tweet, Pelosi said she was “honored” to be re-elected and urged the party to get to work.
Pelosi vowed on Wednesday to unify the Democrats in efforts to defend President Obama’s legislative legacy from the incoming Trump administration, while proposing caucus reforms so as to empower younger Democratic lawmakers who have been frustrated by the lack of leadership opportunities.
“My heart is broken that we did not win the White House this time. I think we knocked down some barriers for them to come up and speak their piece and not be afraid to challenge leadership”.
House Democrats re-elected Nancy Pelosi as their leader. The party’s new leadership was chosen today in a private meeting using secret ballots.
She also agreed to expand the party’s leadership hierarchy to include more of its less senior members. Ryan challenged House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif., but lost, 134-63.
For their part, Ryan and his backers insisted that they had won a victory in sending a message to Pelosi about the significant desire for change among House Democrats. Current leaders chose to push back the voting amid the rumblings from some members that a pause, and possibly new leaders, could be good for their caucus.
“This year voters went to the polls and made a bold statement for change in Washington but House Democrats just doubled down on the status quo”, the RNC said in a statement. “It’s the issue that unites us”, he said after the vote.
Republicans, who had surprise all-around electoral victories in November, from the Executive to the Senate, have wasted no time trolling and cheering Pelosi’s leadership.
Addressing reporters, Pelosi dismissed concerns that her loss was a sign of brewing discontent within the party.
“I’m convinced Nancy Pelosi is best equipped to lead this caucus in what is a unsafe time”, Rep. The 15-term California representative and seven-term party leader had become synonymous with the Democrats’ larger failure to adapt and respond to the rising tide of conservatism within the United States, and Ryan was seen by some as the antidote to the Democrats’ stagnation. Numerous seats Democrats were unable to win back also came in more working class, rural areas of those states.
Ryan, representing an OH manufacturing district that managed to keep its economy going amid the economic crisis, ran saying that he could regain for Democrats the confidence of the working class. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) for another term even though House Democrats won just six seats in the past election, far fewer than expected, after expected coattails from Hillary Clinton failed to materialize.
