The BMW i3 is getting a serious makeover for next year
The publication also claims that the new BMW i3 will come with a redesigned front and rear and will be powered by a bigger battery that can last much longer compared to the one that is now used. “BMW i3” would receive a total revamped version that including changes in design and battery capacity are expected, by an insider report.
BMW is taking another stab at its battery-powered i3 sedan, an innovative electric vehicle that failed to excite consumers, at least not sufficiently to satisfy the German maker of premium automobiles.
According to sources close to the matter, the German luxury automobile maker is gearing up to debut the BMW i3 electric auto in 2017. That auto has a 33kWh battery that boosts the i3’s range to 195 miles (up from 118) when measured by the official New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test. The move is also expected to change the destiny of the premium auto maker’s electric vehicle venture.
This would make a lot of sense considering that the Tesla Model 3 is launching later next year, and will be cheaper plus have substantially more to it performance-wise than the BMW i3.
As soon as we get some more information about the new BMW i3, including some photos of the auto, we will let you guys know. The company is also giving the battery a new battery which is supposed to increase its range by many folds.
The new battery pack will be complemented by a mid-cycle face-lift that will bring revised front and rear fascias, new colors, and additional wheel designs, according to German newspaper Welt.
Looks like a good news for vehicle buffs! The project has been an expensive one from the start for BMW as well. Still, range remains one of the biggest concerns for customers looking to buy an electric auto so this is something they certainly want more of.
Which means drivers can expect the next-gen model to land somewhere below the 280-mile-range line-probably on par with EV rivals like Tesla’s Model S (234 miles) and Model X (257 miles), or the Chevrolet Bolt (238 miles).
