Klopp: Liverpool can not use Coutinho absence as excuse
Although scans are yet to reveal the extent of the damage, Coutinho is believed to be unavailable for the Merseysiders until mid-January. A rough challenge from Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong, left the player writhing in pain.
Liverpool remained patient as Sunderland repelled everything Klopp’s men could throw at them until Divock Origi’s 75th minute finish put the Reds on the path to a victory confirmed by James Milner’s 91st minute penalty. That wasn’t the case with Coutinho appearing at Melwood in a protective boot and with the aid of crutches.
Klopp acknowledged it is not ideal for Liverpool – now second in the league standings – to be without their star attacker for the upcoming stretch but noted that his side’s brilliance has been built in unison, rather than through individuals.
“Roberto, we have to wait”. Let us know by dropping a comment below via our Facebook comment box. He had pain but pain gets better.
Speaking about the injury situation Klopp says he will not risk his players for the club game and listen to his player’s intuition.
“There is really always a way, even when the first team is a really strong side”, said Klopp. “I am quite an optimistic guy so I hope he can train tomorrow”.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has assured young Welsh worldwide talent Ben Woodburn there is a route to a regular place in the Liverpool first team.
The win saw Liverpool temporarily take top spot in the table, before Chelsea returned to the summit later on after beating Tottenham. In the game, you can’t worry too much about it because we needed to carry on.
“I think Liverpool’s XI, playing week in week out, can match up to nearly any team in the league [but] have they got the squad the other sides have got?” After the game, everyone was asking how he was. “If we have another few injuries or not, we will see”, Klopp added.
“That’s really where my love for the game started to come alive and that was a big part of my development”.
“We only want to perform, we want to play football, and I think the way we play is possible without them”. That’s a very good sign.
“We have more players for different situations, that’s all good, but two more defensive, two very young [on the bench]”, Klopp said, referring to defenders Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno and teenagers Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn.
