Tolzien gives Colts solid showing in 28-7 loss to Steelers
That was the case for the Steelers last Thursday night in their 28-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
And yet, the underlying story again repeats itself, regurgitated by both players and coaches: unacceptable, inexcusable, embarrassing.
And Pagano didn’t drop any hints about his backup plan, either, when he told reporters Tuesday simply that the Colts had “options”. “Those guys know that”.
“You can practice mental toughness, but a lot of it just comes from within and dealing with adversity, and through that adversity your character is revealed”, Rodgers said in a conference call Wednesday with Philly writers.
And boy, did dropping numerous passes end up crushing the Colts.
Brown added a third touchdown in the fourth quarter with Davis out of action, but the Steelers leaned heavily on Le’Veon Bell in the second half to grind out the remainder of the clock. In the last three seconds of the game, Big Ben heaved a pass to Mike Wallace in the end zone to tie it up.
“It was my fault”. Hilton’s bobble was a pretty drop-in-the-bucket throw from Tolzein that should have gone for a 65-yard-score and Moncreif’s came just before the 2:00 warning and should have been a score from 24 yards out. “Shouldn’t have happened; should’ve caught it”. Although the defense did play better in the second half, holding the Steelers to 7 points.
Next up for the Colts is a road game against the Jets on Monday, Dec. 5.
But Hilton wasn’t the only one.
How so? By forcing Tolzien-who unfortunately only resembles Brady when it comes to footspeed-to lumber on a play-action roll-out on 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line (it didn’t end well) before emptying the backfield with Tolzien in shotgun on the fourth-down play that screamed “We’re going to throw the ball!” Let’s see it against the Giants, Bengals and Ravens before we start proclaiming it an identity. “You can’t do that”. “Tonight, we felt we had some shots, but we also controlled the ball.it wasn’t like a big staggering numbers night but it was an efficient night”. They did an excellent job of taking care of their business, doing their job and giving us another blade of grass, another down to play.
And he’s got a running back who wants the ball every play. You can’t be anxious about any hit any kind of way.
“Anytime you rock them real good, it kind of sets the tone for the defense and the team”, Mitchell said.
Thursday night was no different. This season, he has seven touchdown passes and no interceptions. On the second, Tolzien whipped one 15 yards over T.Y. Hilton’s head and 10 yards behind him.
Mitchell then defensed a fourth-down pass intended for wide receiver Chester Rogers to thwart the drive. After setting an National Football League record by converting 44 consecutive field goals, he’s now missed two of his last three.
But Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense were on point again for the third straight year against the Colts. Competitors respect sharpshooters not those that can only rarely and randomly hit their targets because as I said in a recent column there is no sense in having the greatest firepower without being able to focus on and hit the intended destination. It was their seventh loss in eight tries on Thanksgiving against Cowboys, who had never won more than eight straight in the regular season.
