U2 welcomes the Clintons, Springsteen at New York show
Last December, Springsteen filled in for Bono as he fronted U2 for their special concert in New York’s Times Square on World Aids Day.
She was promptly booed off stage by the audience before she could finish her story.
U2 also covered Lou Reed’s ‘Satellite of Love’, after stating that Reed’s widow, musician Laurie Anderson, was also in the crowd.
Bono introduced them to the audience, saying: “I am here today because some people, when I crashed my bike here in the city, a lovely girl made a phone call to 911. And so is Engine 44, the firefighters that picked me up off the ground”, he said.
Following this he then passes the microphone the woman who came to his rescue.
It earned her laughs.
“Right here’s what occurred: I used to be operating in Central Park, there was an accident, clearly I needed to cease and assist as a result of I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia, the place individuals are good”, she stated because the viewers booed as she tried to complete the story.
Bono, 55, completed surgery after suffering fractures to his left eye socket, shoulder blade and left elbow following his fall. Rock “n” roll legend Bruce Springsteen joined Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen on stage for two songs.
U2 performed the seventh show of their eight-show stint at Madison Square Garden on July 30, and the 55-year-old frontman, real name Paul Hewson, invited some fans on stage, and wanted to thank the woman who helped him after his serious cycling accident.
The band will tour Europe in September.
