Morano, according to Reuters, lives by herself and has outlived her eight brothers and sisters. She carried on working “well past retirement age”, and lived alone in her Verbania apartment until a year ago.

Today, Morano celebrates her 117th birthday.
Locals in Morano’s hometown of Verbania, Italy, celebrated with her, but she admitted to being confused by the fuss. At 117 years of age, Emma is now the oldest person in the world and is believed to be the last. She is the last known person alive to have been born in the 19th century.
There is one other thing Ms Morano credits with her longevity: kicking her husband out in 1938, the year after her baby boy died, aged just six months. Emma says she doesn’t eat much but she did receive her favorite biscuits as a gift. Dr. Carlo Bava, her primary care doctor, explained: “She’s aware of the privilege of living”, and has accepted aches and pains as part of the aging process.
“Then at one point she said, ‘Hey, isn’t there anything to eat here?’ and she ate”, said Bava, who honored her Tuesday morning.
A second party, including a visit from the mayor and another cake, was planned for the afternoon, after a nap.
Since then, Morano has eaten more than 100,000 eggs!
Morano was born in the village of Civiasco in the Piedmont region of northern Italy in 1899, the year in which Guglielmo Marconi first transmitted a radio signal across the English Channel.
He said Morano’s husband beat her and she lost an infant son to crib death at 6 months.
The supercentenarian says she started the habit of eating two raw eggs, and one cooked egg, every day, aged 20, when she was diagnosed with anaemia.
