Storms bring flooding to drought-parched Alabama

In Tennessee, one tornado was spotted in Coffee County, and the NWS noted wind damage in more than two dozen locations.

No children outside the family were in the building Tuesday night, Clifton said.

The Daily Post-Athenian in Athens, Tennessee, reported the Meigs County sheriff’s office said lightning is suspected as the cause of two deaths in a mobile home fire.

Officials say as many as 20 confirmed twisters hit northern part of the state.

Jackson County Coroner Harry Laney told CNN that local officials and law enforcement have started to assess the damage to homes and treat injured residents.

The storms continued into Wednesday afternoon.

The severe weather that battered portions of the South on Tuesday night also caused damage and some injuries in MS, according to media reports.

The band of storms stretched from the coast of Louisiana, across MS and Alabama and into Georgia.

Experts spread out Wednesday to survey the damage, seeking to determine whether other twisters touched down during the night.
