Kane scores brace as Spurs rout Swansea
Spurs had won just once in their past 10 matches in all competitions, a run dating back to early October that has seen them eliminated from the Champions League and EFL Cup, and lose ground to the Premier League leaders.
Spurs squandered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, having been unbeaten in their opening 12 league games, but they bounced back in style on Saturday. I don’t think the jocular Italian has to press the panic button just yet as they extended their winless streak in the Premier League to four games but a successful move in the right direction from two points above the relegation zone would be most welcome.
Harry Kane opened the scoring from the spot on 39 minutes before Heung-Min Son added a second in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Mauricio Pochettino says he has used a much-needed week off to focus on “the bigger picture” with his players and to stress the importance of being mentally ready to play at full intensity every three days.
Bob Bradley could only watch as his Swansea side were handed a heavy defeat on Saturday.
Pochettino told reporters on Friday: “I think after he moved to Swansea and we saw his development … he was a ideal player for us”.
The Baggies went in front as Jonny Evans rose highest at the back post to nod in a Chris Brunt corner, and the supplier became the scorer not long after as the Northern Irish star saw his strike, after a set-piece routine, rattle into the bottom corner. We dominated, we created chances- they did not shoot, they did not create chances.
Kane then added his second of the game four minutes after the break and Christian Eriksen also got on the scoresheet twice late on as Mauricio Pochettino’s side produced the flawless response to consecutive defeats by Monaco and Chelsea. “I don’t think the referee is in a great position and I don’t think there’s contact”, Bradley added.
“It’s been a good opportunity to see the bigger picture and try to analyse everything”.
‘We knew that it was going to be hard to come here and take points, ‘ the Swansea boss said. They need more wins, and to get them they’ve got to start scoring more goals. Anyway, with “Tottenham” Welsh will play with a lot more confidence in their abilities than before, so the team Pochettino easy walk should not be expected.
