Titans beat Chicago Bears 27-21
If you don’t like this Bears team, John Fox, Ryan Pace, whatever, you’re nodding knowlingly and approvingly as they fall to 2-9 after a couple of missed last-minute chances in a 27-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans (6-6).
(2) In his first National Football League start, Barkley overcame two red-zone interceptions to pass for 316 yards and three touchdowns and almost led the Bears to a historic comeback win. Flustering Cutler, especially in the red zone, has always been the key to game-changing interceptions. “It’s unsafe. He’s only in his second year”.
“It’s really cool”, said Mariota when told of the Hall of Fame company he now keeps. It has been a while since we have seen a quarterback develop around here – no, Jay Cutler’s temporary improvement a year ago doesn’t count – so let’s remember a few things about quarterbacks.
Matt Barkley lost Sunday’s game but won, at least, some Monday-morning respect. And there was plenty in the first three quarters, including an end-zone interception and another in the red zone.
“It was quite a ride”, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. Barkley was rotten in previous opportunities before this season- he was rotten against the Green Bay Packers and he was rotten for three quarters against the Tennessee Titans.
Despite a valiant effort for a comeback in the second half, the Chicago Bears were one or two drives too late. Teams will try to negate his and force him to play outside a comfort zone. During that stretch, the Titans have posted a 5-3 record and have moved into playoff contention. “Like I said, a lot of these games are like a whitewater”. “It’s a win on the road, which we need”. Fox wants to win games. Just making sure we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot. We have to win our games.
The Titans held on but didn’t do great work once they were ahead 27-7.
Matt Barkley, the Bears’ third starting quarterback in 11 games, completed 28 of 54 passes for 316 yards, and touchdowns to Daniel Brown, Marquess Wilson and Deonte Thompson. It should have been an easy touchdown – except the ball bounced away. In his first start on Sunday, registered just four tackles.
And, oh, did he make make mistakes. That speaks volumes about their ability. “His actions show that day in and day out and we’re proud as an offensive line to protect him”.
Mariota was 15 for 23 for 226 yards. Now his season may be over, and the Bears will have to hope he’ll be ready for the start of 2017. Alley is a little …
“He’s very patient, got poise”, said Walker, echoing Lewan.
Most recently, the Bears visited Tennessee on November 4th, 2012 and left with a 51-20 victory. The Texans are suffering from full-on buyer’s remorse with Brock Osweiler. They got basically about everything they could have asked for out of a backup, or even a starter for that matter. Delanie Walker had a huge drive, catching a very long pass from Marcus Mariota for a first down, and then he made an even bigger impact as he set a huge block for Derrick Henry as the rookie running back romped into end zone to tie things up at 7-7.
