James makes good on bet with Wade, shows up in Cubs uniform
James made a friendly wager on the Series between the Cleveland Indians and Cubs with Wade, his former Miami teammate and Chicago native who returned to play in his hometown this season. But James remained a man of his word and wore a No. 23 jersey with James on the back, along with the pinstripe trousers and long baseball socks. However, Rondo answered with a quick two and a 25-foot three to put the Bulls back up 97-89 with 7:20 to play.
“In putting the Cavaliers on his back in the NBA Finals he also fulfilled a promise to his home city and to an entire region”, Sports Illustrated’s editorial team wrote.
Boarded: The Bulls out rebounded the Cavs 57-38 and scored 50 of their 58 first-half points in the paint. That’s a recipe for losing.
LeBron James scored a game-high 27 points for the Cavaliers (13-5), who lost their third straight game.
“You can not be around someone who is great and not learn something from him, ” Wade said. Bobby Portis received a DNP as Hoiberg avoided playing him at center by just not playing him at all, going even with Niko at center for a bit in the first half (it didn’t turn out great).
During halftime, this guy showed up, too.
Cleveland (13-5) remains in first in the East, but has indeed lost three straight for the first time in a year, since December 1-5 of 2015.
Following the game, a 111-105 Bulls victory, Wade said, “I actually thought he looked good, man”.
The Bulls expected to take the Cavaliers’ best shot after two poor performances, and one wouldn’t have been surprised to see a blowout from the champs looking to refocus.
Golden State’s Draymond Green is already talking about wanting to play the Cavs in the NBA Finals for a third straight year – the Warriors won in 2015 – but James doesn’t even want to think about it right now. He’s moving pretty good but you can tell he’s favoring it at times.
The Cavaliers’ title was the first for the city of Cleveland since the Browns won the National Football League title in 1964.
Rajon Rondo also had his way in the lane and posted a triple-double with 15 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.
But, the Bulls basically everything from their starters on Friday night. Everyone but Robin Lopez played some heavier minutes in the first of four games in five nights, but the Bulls worked for it down the stretch.
