Chiefs seem overmatched by Falcons’ offense, on paper
In a game that featured a 55 yard fake punt for a touchdown, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Atlanta Falcons with one of the rarest scoring plays in the NFL.
Berry’s second big play came just after the Falcons erased what had been a 27-16 Chiefs lead on the back of two fourth quarter touchdowns. Atlanta now leads the NFC South by a game over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But Atlanta defeated Arizona 38-19 anyway, with wide receivers Taylor Gabriel catching four passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns and Mohamed Sanu making eight receptions. Kansas City trails Oakland by just one game for first place in the division and is now holding on to the first wild card spot.
Atlanta will look to pin Kansas City back in their own territory and make quarterback Alex Smith and the Chiefs’ offense go the length of the field. The Chiefs run defense is going to be the key here, but if the line can hold Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman in check, it could be an easier road than expected for KC. It was an emotional pick for Berry, who had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma midway through the 2014 National Football League season.
On the other side of the ball, the Falcons will look to continue on last week’s performance of shutting down their opponents’ ground game.
The Chiefs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win. From there they talk about the Cowboys win over the Vikings in Thursday Night Football and more importantly, Rick bet his Jet Ski on the game.
Kansas City has taken advantage of a sluggish Falcon defense that has lacked pressure up the middle.
On their third drive of the game, Atlanta extends the lead with a field goal. Kansas City earned a 17-14 victory in that season’s final game.
The big plays are another thing that separates the Falcons from the pack. The Falcon defense had a tough time with the Chiefs offense.
Heading into Seattle’s formidable CenturyLink Field is the ultimate test for a team on their travels – the Seahawks have won all five home games this season.
“Every game is important, and when you have so much family involved, it’s even more powerful”, Robinson said. This is evident by tight end Travis Kelce leading the team in targets (82) and catches (57), plus yards (675).
Local players to watch: Kansas City – CB Steven Nelson (Oregon State), CB Kenneth Acker (Grant High School Generals), WR De’Anthony Thomas (Oregon).
On third-and-3, Ryan was sacked by Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston. Judging Kansas City’s defense after Week 13 might be very telling to how good they truly are.
Berry may not get another opportunity to play in Atlanta before he retires.
